Hanger
RagWing Aviation
has plans for a affordable, portable, arch hangar that can be built
for less than $500. Actual cost of the second prototype hangar which
is the one shown is $365. complete. This hangar with its low cost
and ease of construction should serve the ultralight community well.
The arch hanger is based on greenhouse technology. This should encourage
many builders' because there is practically a greenhouse in every
town and they are continuing to prove their strength every day.
Rarely will you see a greenhouse damaged from bad weather and many
have been built for many years. Replacing the plastic normally on
greenhouse types is a heavy duty silver ultraviolet barrier tarp.
Lifetime of the tarp has been quoted of up to 5 years depending
on location and climate. The finished size of the hangar is 34 foot
wide and 28 foot deep which allows room for one aircraft of over
26 foot wingspan or two aircraft with wingspans less than 26 foot.
Height is 12 foot.
The
hangar becomes portable just by removing the anchor cables and tarp,
unbolting the entire structure and moving to a new location. Its
not something you would want to do every week but it is very feasible
to do when necessary. Construction requires a minimum of two people
an average of 5 hours to build once all materials are gathered.
Plans for the RagWing arch hanger cost $15.00 which consists of
step by step instructions on 20 pages and a materials list and sources
for all items. Tarps and all materials are bought locally by the
builder in order to keep the cost down. RagWing will supply any
materials to complete a hangar at a builders request. Orders for
